Therapeutic Massage
Therapeutic massage is a more targeted form of bodywork geared toward the specific needs of the client and can evolve over the course of several sessions. This type of manual therapy focuses on soft-tissue dysfunction and is used to reduce pain, and improve range of motion, body movement and function.
A variety of techniques that will likely be utilized:
- Myofascial Release
- Muscle Energy Technique (PNF)
- Neuromuscular Techniques
- Trigger Point Therapy
- Trigger Point Therapy
- Joint Mobilization
- Pelvic & Cervical Stabilization
- Joint Capsule Release
This type of massage is ideal for those who have chronic pain or injury, have a lifestyle that requires a lot of sitting or repetitive motion, or those in treatment for postural re-alignment. Because of the nature of this approach, sessions are usually structured with a focus on one or two areas of concern; and treatment may require longer sessions. Initially, more frequent sessions may be very helpful.
Craniosacral Therapy (CST)
CST is a gentle, hands-on method of evaluating and enhancing the functioning of a physiological body system called the craniosacral system - comprised of the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord. Using a soft touch, practitioners release restrictions in the craniosacral system to improve the functioning of the central nervous system. CST is intended to facilitate the body's ability to self-correct.
By complementing the body's natural healing processes, CST is increasingly used as a preventive health measure for its ability to bolster resistance to disease, and is effective for a wide range of medical problems associated with pain and dysfunction, only a few of which include:
- Migraine Headaches
- Chronic Pain
- Concussions and Traumatic Brain Injuries
- Emotional Difficulties
- Connective-Tissue Disorders
- Temporomandibular Joint Syndrome (TMJ)
Reiki Therapy
The practice of Reiki Therapy promotes relaxation, stress reduction, pain relief, and has the ability to create space for an emotional catharsis. A gentle touch and specific hand positions are used over the body’s energy centers (heart, third eye, solar plexus etc.). The environment is similar to massage therapy, except the client remains completely clothed (unless combined with massage therapy).
Originated in Japan in the early 1920’s, the word Reiki means “vital life
force energy.” Today, our western medical hospitals have recognized the benefits
of Reiki, and have been utilizing this healing modality in recent decades.
Reiki is a useful tool in restoring balance and harmony within the body, whether
physically, mentally, emotionally or spiritually.
